Minor Azerbaijani migrant rescued in Italy

A minor Azerbaijani migrant has been rescued in Italy.

The incident occurred on the coast of the commune of Salento, Report informs with reference to the local press.

It is noted that at night a small vessel with 59 migrants was found in the port of Santa Maria di Leuca. A local coast guard operation was launched to rescue them.

Among the migrants are 44 men and eight women, including seven minors from Azerbaijan, Syria, Palestine, Iran and Iraq.

Migrants will undergo identification procedures after the first checks. They will be received by volunteers of the Italian delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and placed in a shelter.

Currently, investigative actions are being carried out to identify the smugglers.
