PM: Ukraine ready to demilitarise Crimea

24 August 2022 10:03

Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has said that his country is ready to demilitarise the occupied Crimea, as Russian troops launch strikes from the territory of the peninsula.

The prime minister made the remarks on the Crimea Platform in Kyiv on August 23, according to RBC-Ukraine.

Shmyhal said that Crimea is currently one of the centres from where Ukrainian cities are shelled and Ukrainians are killed.

“Such actions of the occupiers have turned Russia's military infrastructure in Crimea into a legitimate military target. Therefore, Ukraine is ready to carry out the demilitarisation of Crimea and eliminate these threats both for our country and for the whole of Europe,” he said.

The Ukraine government’s head added that the Ukrainian side would also welcome the voluntary withdrawal of Russian troops from the peninsula and other occupied territories.
