Political analyst: West double-crossing Pashinyan, as it once did to Saakashvili
In an interview with Armenian media, political analyst Argishti Kiviryan told what fate awaits Pashinyan if he continues to rely on the West to fulfil its promises.
"Why are the Armenian authorities shunning Russia today? Because when they signed the document under the patronage of the West, recognising that Karabakh is Azerbaijani territory, they were promised something. And now, if they go to Moscow, all these promises will burst like a balloon, and even unfulfilled promises will be thrown to the wind, and in the end, it will turn out that Armenia has gone without getting anything in return," he said, according to Caliber.Az.
"That's why Pashinyan is busy travelling to various political centres in the West, where he is trying to remind them that they made promises to Yerevan. Moreover, the former Georgian president Saakashvili fell for such bait. He, too, was promised something and then, as the Russians say, was double-crossed.
Moreover, Western political representatives are calling for new elections in Armenia. Why? Because they know that the promises will not be fulfilled under any circumstances. Why was Saakashvili ousted? Because they also made promises to him, and he tried to remind them of them from time to time, albeit gently. Now the same situation has been created with Pashinyan.
If Pashinyan goes to Moscow, it is obvious that Azerbaijan, as always, will raise its demands. This is absolutely true, this is what Azerbaijan has always done. Moreover, Azerbaijan is the winning side in this war. Azerbaijan, as I and other colleagues have warned, is able to promote its interests as much as possible, unlike the Armenian authorities, who, to put it mildly, are always trapped by Baku or other states," the political analyst said.
