Religious figures condemns Iran's anti-Azerbaijan activities

Religious figures of Azerbaijan’s Hajigabul, Salyan, Neftchala, Bilasuvar districts and Shirvan city have made a statement against Iran's military drills near the Azerbaijani border and the support for Armenia.

Azerbaijan is one of the countries that stands out for its religious attitude, Qafqazinfo reports citing the statement.

Azerbaijan attaches special importance to tolerance and support for multicultural values in accordance with the principles of the rule of law and democracy.

Azerbaijan cares mosques, churches and other prayer houses, as well as the believers.

Azerbaijan constantly defends and promotes this policy not only within the country, but also in the regional and international arenas, builds a foreign policy on the principles of good neighbourliness and peace.

However, Azerbaijan's efforts in this sphere were underestimated by its neighbours and were subjected to pressure and aggression.

“Such an attitude, especially from Iran, with which we have common spiritual values and where millions of our compatriots live, was unexpected for us and caused deep disappointment. Iran, from which we have been waiting for fraternal and friendly relations for many years, on the contrary, has intensified cooperation in all spheres with Armenia, which has destroyed 65 of 67 Muslim mosques, desecrates them, creates a threat to peace in the region, does not renounce territorial claims to Azerbaijan, offends the souls of Azerbaijani martyrs.

Iran, which turned a blind eye to the occupation of Azerbaijani lands for years, has made unfounded claims against Azerbaijan, is conducting military exercises on the Azerbaijani borders and is trying to question the spirituality of the Azerbaijani people, their adherence to Islam. Thus, Iran signed up for actions that not only do not correspond to relations with Azerbaijan, but contradict Islamic solidarity.

We declare that such actions, contrary to humanism and religious morality, are of great concern to religious leaders. We, as religious figures, express our concern about the unfair policy of Iran, which calls itself the Islamic Republic, its threatening inappropriate statements against Azerbaijan, and regard that Iran’s actions are not in line with the spirit of the brotherhood of the holy Islamic religion,” the statement says.
