Speaker urges int'l probe into torture of Azerbaijani soldiers in Armenia
Azerbaijani Parliament Speaker Sahiba Gafarova has called on international organizations to investigate the torture of two Azerbaijani servicemen who went missing at the border a few days ago in Armenia and take appropriate action.
Gafarova made the remarks during her speech at the 55th plenary session of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS countries in St Petersburg on April 14, Report informs, citing the parliament press service.
She noted that a few days ago Armenia detained two Azerbaijani servicemen who had disappeared at the border.
"Immediately, videos showing physical torture and inhumane treatment of them were distributed on social networks. International organizations should investigate this act of violence and give it a proper assessment," she stressed.
Gafarova stressed that Armenia deliberately escalates the situation in the region.
It is obvious that Armenia is pursuing a policy aimed at abusing the presence of the EU mission in this country and deliberately escalating the regional situation, she noted.
According to her, the Armenian armed forces and illegal Armenian armed formations continue to violate the ceasefire along the Azerbaijani-Armenian border and in the territories temporarily controlled by the Russian peacekeepers, causing human losses.
Speaker Gafarova noted that three days ago Armenia committed another military provocation on the border, as a result of which three Azerbaijani servicemen were killed.
