Spokeswoman: Western Azerbaijanis suffer from colonialism
A spokesperson of the Western Azerbaijan Community Ulviyya Zulfigar has said that Western Azerbaijanis also suffered from colonialism.
She made the remarks at the event “Towards the Complete Elimination of Colonialism,” organized in Baku by CAIR within the Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Coordinating Bureau, Report informs.
According to her, the people who were displaced from their native land in the last 200 years have united in the Western Azerbaijan Community: "These people were deported from the territory of present-day Armenia. Western Azerbaijanis also suffered from colonialism. Deportation is also a crime against humanity."
The spokesperson said that there are also people who were subjected to massacres: "We have appeals to Armenia that remain unanswered. Armenia is a monoethnic state."
"Unfortunately, France has never expressed a position on the appeals regarding the return of our compatriots," Zulfigar said.
“We stand in solidarity with those present here. France has not joined the Council of Europe convention for the protection of national minorities. By not joining the Convention, France demonstrates its attitude towards national minorities on its territory and thus adheres to a close position with mono-ethnic Armenia, following in its footsteps,” she added.
