State Commission: Azerbaijan calls for transparent, thorough investigation into plane crash

Azerbaijan insists on a transparent, objective, and comprehensive examination of the circumstances surrounding the crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines passenger plane in Kazakhstan, which resulted in the deaths of 26 citizens of Azerbaijan.

This statement was made by members of the State Commission investigating the plane crash during a meeting on December 27, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

The meeting participants also emphasised that Baku demands public disclosure of the results of the investigation into the incident.

Currently, the investigation is ongoing within a special commission created by Kazakhstan. 

The State Commission is also focused on the swift repatriation of the bodies of 22 victims from Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan. 

The bodies will be transferred to Azerbaijan following the completion of forensic examinations and other necessary procedures.

The commission members were also tasked with addressing the urgent issues of financial assistance and psychological support for the victims and the families of those who perished in the crash.

The crash occurred on December 25, when an Embraer aircraft operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, en route from Baku to Grozny, tragically crashed near Aktau. The plane was carrying 67 people, including 37 Azerbaijanis, 16 Russians, 6 Kazakhs, and 3 Kyrgyz nationals. Sadly, 38 people lost their lives in the crash, with 29 survivors.
