Turkish MP highlights importance of Azerbaijan’s BRICS membership
Turkish MP Dogan Bekin has said that Azerbaijan's membership in BRICS is of great importance in terms of security, economic development and other aspects.
Bekin believes that in the globalised world, membership in organisations based on economic cooperation brings positive results, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Speaking about Türkiye's possible membership in BRICS, the politician emphasised that the country is a member of NATO and has reached certain agreements with the European Union. “All this will of course be taken into account when making a decision. At the moment, Türkiye is an observer in BRICS. I believe that in the future relations should be developed,” he said.
On August 20, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Spokesman Aykhan Hajizada said that Azerbaijan had submitted an official application to join BRICS.
The news about it was also posted on its official X account by the organisation itself.
BRICS is an intergovernmental organisation established in 2006, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates.
