Two-thirds of French residents favour prime minister's resignation

05 January 2024 10:23

Two-thirds of French people want Elisabeth Borne to step down as prime minister.

A sociological study by the Odoxa Backbone Consulting public opinion research institute, commissioned by the newspaper Le Figaro, showed that except for voters who sympathize with the presidential social liberal Renaissance party (29 per cent), the majority of supporters of other political forces consider the resignation of the head of government necessary.

About 80 per cent of voters of the nationalist National Rally, 70 per cent of those who support the Socialist Party, 64 per cent of those who vote for the left-wing “Unconquered France” and environmentalists, 60 per cent of supporters of the centre-right “Republicans” would like Borne to stop leading the government.

Almost seven in ten French people (68 per cent) perceive the outcome of its activities as very negative.

The survey took place against the backdrop of media speculation in recent days that another government reshuffle is coming in France.
