Ukraine strikes Moscow with 34 drones, marking largest assault since 2022
On November 10, Ukraine launched its largest drone attack on Moscow since the conflict began in 2022, using at least 34 drones.
This significant strike forced the diversion of flights from three of Moscow’s main airports and left at least five people injured, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
The Russian defence ministry reported that air defences intercepted and destroyed another 50 drones across other areas of Western Russia.
"An attempt by the Kyiv regime to carry out a terrorist attack using airplane-type drones on Russian territory was thwarted," the ministry stated.
Russia's federal air transport agency confirmed that Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo, and Zhukovsky airports diverted at least 36 flights before resuming normal operations. The defence ministry noted that five individuals were injured in the Moscow region as a result of the attack.
Moscow and its surrounding region, which houses over 21 million residents, is one of Europe’s largest metropolitan areas, comparable to Istanbul.
In response, Russia launched a record 145 drones targeting Ukraine overnight, according to Ukrainian officials. Kyiv's air defences reportedly shot down 62 of those drones. Additionally, Ukraine claimed it had targeted an arsenal in Russia’s Bryansk region, which reported 14 drones being intercepted.
Unverified footage circulating on Russian Telegram channels appeared to show drones moving across the skyline.
The war in Ukraine, now over two and a half years old, is approaching what some officials believe could be its concluding phase. This follows recent rapid advances by Russian forces, the fastest since the early days of the conflict, and the election of Donald Trump as the 47th president of the United States.
