Ukraine turns to European neighbours for electricity imports amid energy crisis
Ukraine is forced to request electricity imports from five European countries due to problems with the energy sector.
“Imports will be carried out during the day from Poland, the UK, Slovakia, Hungary, Moldova. The total output of 5000 MW per hour with the maximum capacity in hours of Canada up to 1290 MW,” the National Energy Company (NEC) Ukrenergo said on its Telegram channel, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
The management of Ukrenergo also once again urged Ukrainian citizens to save electricity and not to turn on at the same time powerful electrical appliances.
Earlier, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal admitted that about 90 per cent of the country's thermal power industry had been destroyed or damaged. According to him, today the authorities' priority is to supply cities dependent on thermal power plants with alternative heat sources. He called them the most vulnerable. At the same time, Shmygal blamed Russia for the current situation.
Prior to that, the Ukrainian Energy Ministry admitted that they will not have time to commission the 1 GW of power generation capacity promised by the country's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy by the end of the year. However, the equipment necessary for this will be delivered on time.
