Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev lauded COP29 as a significant historical event for international climate cooperation as he addressed Informal Summit of the Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Shusha.

President Mirziyoyev highlighted the crucial role of the Turkic world in advancing global efforts to combat climate change and emphasized the importance of the upcoming COP29 conference, which will be hosted by Azerbaijan later this year, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

“COP29 will be a significant historical event for addressing climate change on a global scale,” Mirziyoyev stated. He expressed Uzbekistan’s readiness to support Azerbaijan in its role as chair of the conference and commended the country’s leadership in tackling environmental issues.

Mirziyoyev also underlined that the conference would serve as a vital platform for international cooperation, with the potential to make substantial progress on climate action and sustainability.

He affirmed Uzbekistan’s commitment to contributing to these efforts and collaborating with fellow Turkic states to achieve shared environmental goals.

The summit, initiated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, focuses on themes of regional collaboration and global challenges, including climate change and sustainable development.

Meanwhile, Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz pledged continued support for Azerbaijan ahead of COP29.

In his remarks at the event, Yilmaz reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to supporting Azerbaijan in its preparations for the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Vice President Yilmaz emphasized the importance of the upcoming COP29 conference as a pivotal moment for global climate action and pledged Türkiye’s ongoing support for Azerbaijan in its role as host of the international event.

“Türkiye is committed to continuing its support for Azerbaijan as it prepares for COP29,” Yilmaz stated during his address at the summit. He highlighted that climate change and environmental sustainability are among the most pressing global challenges and stressed the significance of international cooperation in addressing these issues.

Yilmaz also noted that Türkiye has submitted its candidacy for hosting COP31, demonstrating its long-term commitment to climate action and environmental stewardship. He emphasized that Türkiye values transportation and logistics cooperation with OTS member states as part of a broader effort to tackle climate change and build a sustainable future.
