EU to triple macro-financial assistance to Moldova

The EU will almost triple the amount of macro-financial assistance to Moldova - up to 1.6 billion euros from 600 million euros.

The macro-financial assistance plan for Moldova, approved by the EU in 2021, provided for the allocation of 600 million euros to Chisinau over three years, the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said at a press conference in Chisinau on May 31, according to Interfax.

In addition, from 2024, the EU will abolish roaming within the European Union for cell phone subscribers from Moldova. So far, the roaming-free regime applies only between Moldova and Romania.

The head of the European Commission also promised to give another 50 million euros to Chisinau to restore the railway infrastructure and 100 million euros - for energy efficiency projects to help socially vulnerable groups and prepare for the next winter.

Moldova will host the summit of the European political community on June 1, within the framework of which Moldova will be visited by leaders of European countries.
