The Foreign Ministry of Israel conducted on November 2 a press briefing with Colonel Moshe Tetro, Head of the Coordination and Liaison Administration of Gaza from the unit of the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories.

Caliber.Az analyst Orkhan Amashov joined the Q&A session of the video briefing to learn Tetro’s thoughts on certain issues pertaining to the ongoing operation of the Israel Defence Forces against Hamas militants in Gaza.

We present below the talk between Amashov and Tetro:

A: How confident are you that Hamas in Gaza will be completely destroyed by the end of this year? Are you worried that some external actors may frustrate your plans? Even if it is eradicated, could it be replaced by another organisation?

T: … I can say as a soldier that we got our objectives from our political level and we will win this war.

(Tetro said his professional responsibilities allow him to comment only on the humanitarian aspects of the Israel-Hamas conflict and the situation in Gaza, while he is not able to talk about the military issues related to it.)

    Israel-Hamas war

Israeli military has been conducting full-fledged military operations in Gaza to disable Hamas, a Palestinian militant organization. Hamas invaded Israel in an operation, codenamed “Al-Aqsa Flood”, on October 7 killing and capturing hundreds of residents in the south of the country.

Tel Aviv ordered the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), also known as Tzahal, to launch an immediate counter-offensive campaign to push back the deadly assault and further fully incapacitate Hamas.

“The IDF continues to advance in the Gaza City area, conducting face-to-face battles with Hamas terrorists and deepening the fighting,” CNN quoted Daniel Hagari, IDF Spokesperson, as saying in a press statement on November 2.

“Our fighters continue to collapse the defensive lines of Hamas in the north of the Gaza Strip and take control of central areas," he added.

On November 2, the IDF announced the completion of Gaza’s siege. Some analysts claim that the Israeli military is too close to dividing the strip into two as they stand less than a kilometer from the Mediterranean coasts.

As of November 2, according to the Gaza health authorities, 9,061 Palestinians lost their lives and 22,911 were injured, while over 1.4 million Palestinians left the war-torn areas in Gaza since the start of the hostilities. In Israel, casualties include over 1,400 deaths and 5,400 injuries. The Israeli territories stormed by Hamas were left by 250,000 Israelis.
