Who and how voted on ratification of Azerbaijani delegation’s credentials in PACE
    List

    POLITICS  25 January 2024 - 14:14

As previously reported, Baku is freezing cooperation with PACE in the face of the unbearable atmosphere of racism, Azerbaijanophobia and Islamophobia that has developed in this structure.

In turn, PACE refused to ratify the credentials of the Azerbaijani delegation. 76 MPs voted in favour of the decision, 10 voted against it, and four abstained, Caliber.Az reports.

According to the voting results, representatives of the following countries voted for refusing to ratify the credentials of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE: Armenia (4 out of 4), Austria (5 out of 6), Belgium (2 out of 7), Bosnia and Herzegovina (2 out of 5 ), Denmark (2 of 5), Finland (3 of 5), France (7 of 18), Germany (4 of 18), Ireland (2 of 4), Italy (5 of 18), Portugal (4 of 7), Luxembourg (2 of 3), Norway (3 of 5), Romania (2 of 10), Spain (7 of 12), Sweden (6 of 6), Switzerland (4 of 6), Iceland (2 of 3), Lithuania (1 of 4), Malta (1 of 3), San Marino (1 of 2), Andorra (2 of 2), Croatia (1 of 5), Monaco (1 of 2), Slovenia (1 of 3), UK (1 of 18).

One representative from Türkiye - Berdan Ozturk - voted in favour of this decision. This, however, is not surprising, as Ozturk is an ardent opponent of Turkish President Erdogan.

Representatives of the Turkish delegation (9 out of 18), as well as one delegate from Albania, Blerina Gjylameti (1 out of 4), voted against it.

Two representatives of Switzerland, Damien Cottier and Roland Rino Büchel, as well as a delegate from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Snježana Novaković-Bursać, and a representative of Norway, Lise Christoffersen, abstained from voting for or against the PACE decision.

The Azerbaijani delegation left the organization even before the vote, stressing that "in the face of the current unbearable atmosphere of racism, Azerbaijanophobia, and Islamophobia in the PACE, the delegation of Azerbaijan decides to cease its engagement with and presence at the PACE until further notice".

Furthermore, the delegations of Ukraine, Georgia, Bulgaria, Greece, Cyprus, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Moldova, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, North Macedonia, Serbia, Slovakia, Montenegro, the Czech Republic and Estonia refused to take part in the vote.
