Armenian professor: Azerbaijan engaged in realpolitik, while Armenia losing out

    REGION  30 January 2024 - 11:37

Arthur Khachikyan, a doctor of political science at Stanford University in the United States, has said that Azerbaijan is engaged in realpolitik, while Armenia losing out.

"Of course, the Armenian authorities will be happy about the exclusion of the Azerbaijani delegation from PACE. However, nothing real can be expected from the exclusion of the Azerbaijani delegation from PACE for one year. At least, the moral pressure that could be exerted on Azerbaijan will be impossible to do now. This is just a moral gesture towards Armenia, nothing more. It has no real consequences," Khachikyan said in an interview with Armenian media, Caliber.Az reports.

"I don't know where this naivety comes from among us, but the French and Americans see much better what is going on around us than Armenian propagandists, who receive money from the French and Americans, who instil lies and false hopes in our society, distracting from real dangers and efforts to find opportunities. The US clearly and sincerely states that we have interests in the Caucasus, but not vital ones. Why won't you listen and understand? We are just a nation of historical fools.

You know, what hinders us a lot, first of all, is that we think about international relations in a childish way.

As for strategic cooperation with Georgia, Georgia's foreign policy is closely linked to Türkiye. Georgia's strategy is linked to Türkiye, not Armenia. The only thing we can ask from Georgia is not to block the ways of arms flow to Armenia. But even that is impossible, because Türkiye and Azerbaijan will not allow it, because they blocked the road during the 44-day war.

Recently, the French themselves, said that the Bastion armoured personnel carriers that were transferred through Georgia stayed in Georgia for several weeks, they were not allowed through. They were simply allowed in because they are not perceived as serious military equipment, and God knows if Georgia would allow in the case of some serious weapons.

Türkiye is an important country for the world. No one is going to argue with Türkiye over Armenians. Before, when we had Karabakh, we were strong, we were reckoned with. Now nobody is interested in us. We are busy with theatre, we are busy with superficial projects and PR. This is PR. Azerbaijan is busy with realpolitik. That is why they win and we lose. We are busy with meaningless words and meaningless actions," said Khachikyan.
