Western Azerbaijan Community welcomes UN resolution regarding Islamophobia

The Western Azerbaijan Community has issued a statement regarding the "Measures to Combat Islamophobia" adopted by the UN General Assembly.

“The Western Azerbaijan Community, as one of the first victims of Islamophobia, sincerely welcomes the resolution the "Measures to Combat Islamophobia" adopted by the UN General Assembly on March 15,” the statement says, Caliber.Az reports.

"We have always actively contributed to international efforts to combat Islamophobia. Last year, our appeal on this issue was circulated as an official document of the UN General Assembly.

The aforementioned resolution, which was voted for by the majority of states, was not supported by Armenia. Given that Armenia is the birthplace of systemic Islamophobia, its position on the resolution is not surprising.

Let us recall that Armenia, pursuing a policy of Islamophobia at the state level, conducted total ethnic cleansing against Muslims, destroyed Muslim shrines and cemeteries. Armenia glorifies those who committed war crimes against Muslims and crimes against humanity. The country still does not allow the exiled Azerbaijanis to return to their native lands.

We call on all states united in the fight against Islamophobia and xenophobia to condemn Armenia's Islamophobic policy and support the safe and dignified return of exiled Azerbaijanis to their homes," the  statement by the community notes.
