UN supports Azerbaijan’s initiatives in combating mine threat

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has met with United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Administrator Achim Steiner.

Highlighting the positive results of long-term cooperation between the UNDP and Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized the importance of continuing the existing partnership. He also pointed out preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Caliber.Az reports.

Speaking about Azerbaijan's peace initiatives undertaken in the post-conflict period, FM Bayramov said that Armenia's large-scale mining of territories, as well as the refusal of this country to provide maps of mined areas threaten the life and health of citizens and hinder reconstruction works. He stressed the necessity to mobilize international efforts in demining.

Achim Steiner hailed Azerbaijan's achievements and said the UN Development Program attaches great importance to combating the mine threat, and discussing initiatives in this direction. He wished Azerbaijan success in hosting COP29.
