Russian Spokesperson cautions Armenia on risks amidst EU rapprochement
REGION 27 March 2024 - 21:05
Armenia is being cautioned against the peril of falling into a potentially treacherous trap, under the guise of the illusion that forging closer ties with the European Union will usher in prosperity and well-being. Maria Zakharova, Spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, issued this stark warning during a briefing, as reported by TASS.
"Anything that genuinely benefits the people of Armenia is undoubtedly welcomed," Zakharova affirmed. However, she raised grave concerns regarding the hidden dangers concealed beneath the veneer of EU overtures, cautioning against the lurking threats often accompanying such engagements. "The real danger lies in the deceptive allure of EU promises, which may conceal predatory agendas detrimental to nations in the throes of development and democratic transition," she emphasized.
Zakharova reiterated that Armenia's pursuit of genuine prosperity and well-being must not be ensnared by schemes aimed at eternal indebtedness or serving global capital interests. She stressed the importance of preserving centuries-old foundations and national traditions integral to Armenian culture. "The crux of the matter lies in discerning whether such engagements propel genuine progress or merely perpetuate cycles of exploitation and regression under the guise of development," she emphasized.
Highlighting the nuanced threat posed by false promises, Zakharova underscored the necessity for vigilance against deceptive practices that could undermine Armenia's existing prosperity and fruitful endeavors.
