Political analyst: Demarcation of border with Azerbaijan meets Armenia’s vital interests

    REGION  26 April 2024 - 18:11

Armenian political analyst Harutyun Mkrtchyan has said demarcation of the border with Azerbaijan meets the vital interests of Armenia and its population.

“After the beginning of the border delimitation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the impetus for the actions in Tavush [Tovuzgala] district and other settlements of Armenia is not patriotism, but the desire for power,” Mkrtchyan told journalists, commenting on the internal processes in Armenia regarding border delimitation, Caliber.Az reports.

“Those protesting on the street will not achieve anything. We see that there are different groups, including representatives of the previous government, MPs of the ‘Armenia’ faction. They describe their actions as the defence and salvation of the Motherland, but first of all, let them answer one question. When did Gizilhajili, Kheyrimli become their Motherland?” he noted.

The political analyst noted that these forces are trying to create an atmosphere of intolerance in Armenia, to cause disagreement, just to come to power.

“They will not stop. When an insidious clergyman is able to violate the ten commandments of God two or three times within an hour, everything becomes clear,” Mkrtchyan added.

He said that that the goals of some groups that have taken to the streets these days are not related to the vital interests of Armenia, as well as Tavush and its population.

The political analyst stressed that each of the protesters faces a task, one of which is to block interstate roads.

“They are [Russian Foreign Minister Sergei] Lavrov’s witnesses, because Lavrov warned about closing Lars. The attempts are made to isolate Armenia from Georgia, Iran, that is, to block it from the external environment. It is clear that each group faces a challenge, in particular, from Russia. They all serve the interests of one country, and maybe several countries,” he added.

The political analyst added that the rallies are not supported by broad layers of society.

“People are aware of the developments. Do you think Armenia's patience is endless? People will not tolerate this either, there is no reason to close interstate roads under any circumstances,” he noted.

“There is information about the demarcation of the 16-kilometre territory of Armenia and Azerbaijan. This follows from the vital interests of Armenia and its citizens, especially Tavush,” the political analyst added.
