US calls Almaty Declaration basis for delimiting Azerbaijan-Armenia border
POLITICS 29 April 2024 - 09:19
The United States Administration considers the Almaty Declaration to be the basis for the process of delimiting the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated this in a telephone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Caliber.Az reports, citing the website of the US Department of State.
“Secretary Blinken reiterated that the United States welcomes Armenia and Azerbaijan’s agreement to use the Alma Ata Declaration as a basis for border delimitation,” Matthew Miller, chief of the State Department press service, said in a written statement following the conversation.
According to him, the Secretary of State and the Prime Minister discussed “U.S. support for progress between Armenia and Azerbaijan on a durable and dignified peace agreement.”
Meanwhile, according to the Armenian media, delimitation in the Tavush region and negotiations with Azerbaijan were discussed during the conversation.
The parties also discussed the implementation of the agreements reached in Brussels at a trilateral meeting on April 5.
It is noted that Nikol Pashinyan positively assessed the process of delimiting the border with Azerbaijan. He also assured that everything possible would be done to resolve the issues raised.
During the conversation, it was emphasized that mutual recognition of territorial integrity on the basis of the Almaty Declaration and border delimitation open the way to the signing of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
