Kazakhstan extends ban on export of liquefied gas

Kazakh authorities have decided to prolong the ban on the export of liquefied gas from the country, initially implemented in autumn 2023, for an additional six months.

This decision based on instructions from the Ministry of Energy, aims to maintain stability in the domestic market, Caliber.Az reports citing Kazakh media.

Under the document, effective from May 14, the export of liquefied petroleum gas from Kazakhstan is strictly prohibited. The Ministry of Energy clarified that this prohibition applies to both propane and butane, and covers exports by road or rail.

Exceptions to the ban are limited to exports of goods produced or processed from raw materials originating from Kazakhstan's Karachaganak field, as well as transit shipments originating and concluding outside Kazakhstan.

The initial imposition of the ban in November 2023 aimed to prevent fuel shortages in the domestic market by curtailing the outflow of gas to neighboring countries. By extending the prohibition, Kazakhstan seeks to maintain stability in its domestic energy sector while ensuring adequate supply for its citizens.
