Ireland confirms first case of monkeypox

The first case of human infection with monkeypox was detected Friday night in the east of Ireland.
This is stated in a report released on Saturday by the Irish Health Service, TASS reports.
According to report, the infected person was not hospitalized. Medics in the republic are also investigating another possible case of monkeypox infection, which has not yet been confirmed.
Monkeypox is a rare viral disease mainly transmitted to humans from wild animals (rodents, primates). Symptoms of the disease include fever, headache, muscle pain, back pain, enlarged lymph nodes, chills and fatigue. Skin rashes on the face and other parts of the body may also occur.
According to the World Health Organization, the mortality rate in outbreaks of monkeypox is usually from 1% to 10%. At the same time, the majority of deaths occur in younger age groups.
