Expert: Armenia planted "inherited" Soviet army mines on Azerbaijani lands
POLITICS 03 October 2022 - 17:53
Armenia had planted mines "inherited" from the Soviet army on the Azerbaijani lands, which it kept under occupation for almost 30 years, and contaminated all these territories with them.
Military expert Emin Hasanli made the remarks in an interview with Report on October 3.
He noted that the main goal of the Armenians was to prevent the Azerbaijanis from returning to their lands: "Not only did the Armenians drive the Azerbaijanis out of their native lands, destroyed everything in these territories, including historical monuments, cemeteries, they also planted mines everywhere."
Recalling that during the Soviet era, one of the major mine production plants was located in Yerevan, Hasanli noted that according to the maps of minefields transferred to Azerbaijan by this country, 97,000 mines were planted only in liberated Aghdam and Fuzuli.
The expert said that official Yerevan, despite all the agreements, refuses to fulfil its obligations.
"The Azerbaijani state allocates significant funds for the demining of territories, in this matter our country is supported by fraternal Turkiye, and the European Union allocated small financial assistance, for the record. In general, there is no help from international organisations, and the small amounts that they allocate are only for show," he said.
On September 30, as a result of an anti-tank mine explosion in the part of the village of Yukhari Dilagarda, Fuzuli region, two people were killed and one was injured.
On October 1, two people were seriously injured when an anti-personnel mine detonated in an area referred to as the "Third State Farm" in the Tartar region.
On October 2, as a result of the explosion of an anti-personnel mine in the territory of Tagaverd village, Khojavand region, another person was injured.
