UN calls Azerbaijan's geographic location 'unique' for renewable energy sources

Azerbaijan is located in a unique location for the inclusion of renewable energy sources in its energy portfolio.

The Economic Affairs Officer for Renewable Energy at the UN, Gianluca Sambucini, stated this on November 21, as reported by Trend, saying that the country has great perspectives for the development of this industry even with the looming energy crisis and COVID-19 economic impact considered.

"The goal of increasing its share of renewable energy in installed electricity capacity by up to 24% until 2026 and 30% until 2030 has been given to Azerbaijan. A multitude of projects has been implemented for the realization of these goals. For instance, new power stations have been introduced, including megaprojects, which are of great significance for the transformation of Azerbaijan's energy systems for an increase in the use of renewable energy and making it an exporter of this type of energy", Sambucini noted.
