Hurriyet: US suggests Türkiye to give up ground operation in Syria

The United States suggested Türkiye to give up its ground operation and withdraw Kurdish units from northern Syria to a distance of 30 km from the Turkish border.

"Knowing President Erdogan's determination, the Americans have taken steps to resolve the issue without an operation. US Chief of General Staff Milley held talks with Chief of Staff Yashar Guler. National Defence Minister Hulusi Akar received US Ambassador Jeff Flake in Ankara," the columnist of Hurriyet newspaper writes.

He assumes that the negotiations are discussing a compromise, i.e. the withdrawal of Kurdish forces to a distance of 30 km from the border with Türkiye.

The columnist believes the reason for such concessions to Türkiye is the direct presence of US servicemen in the ranks of the Kurdish forces.

Meanwhile, Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar said the Turkish Armed Forces had eliminated 326 terrorists during air operations in Iraq and Syria as part of Pençe-Kılıç Operation, Anadolu Agency reports.

"We have done and will continue to do everything possible to put an end to terrorism and ensure the security of our country, our people, and our borders," he said.
