Russian FM: Situation over Lachin road to be regulated soon

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said that the issue around the situation on [Khankendi-]Lachin road will be regulated in the near future.

He made the remarks at the annual final press conference, Caliber.Az reports with reference to the Russian media.

"Yesterday [January 17] or the day before yesterday [January 16], a meeting was held between Azerbaijani and Karabakh representatives with the participation of the commander of the Russian contingent. I think that the issue will be settled in the near future," Lavrov said.

He recalled that on January 17 he spoke with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and recalled that the Lachin corridor, according to the trilateral agreement of November 9, 2020, should be free for the passage of goods, citizens and vehicles.

Lavrov noted that the statement separately stipulated that military cargo should not be sent along this route.

"The Azerbaijanis provided data, now our military is studying them that the Armenian side delivered mines along this corridor, then these mines were used to use, in violation of the trilateral agreements, to mine territories near Azerbaijani positions. There are a lot of mutual accusations," Lavrov said.

The Russian foreign minister stressed that Russia had proposed a simple thing: a contingent authorised by a trilateral agreement to control traffic, and it has every opportunity to check every vehicle for the absence of prohibited, inhumane, non-civilian goods in it.
