The South Korean SNT Heavy Industries and Türkiye's BMC have signed a contract on the supply of the EST15K 1,500 horsepower automatic transmission for the Turkish ALTAY tank.
According to Caliber.Az, referring to SavunmaSanayiST.com post on their Twitter page, the Turkish ALTAY tank is preparing for the start of field tests with a power plant produced by South Korea. The tank did not go into mass production since 2018 due to an embargo set by Germany on the supply of engine and transmission parts.
Field testing is expected to continue until 2025. If the tests for other electronic tank subsystems, especially the propulsion system, are successful, the mass production is scheduled to start in 2025.
The deal carries a value of €200 million and entails the delivery of 90 units of EST15K automatic transmissions, which will be delivered between 2023 and 2027.
The contract also includes an option for an additional 150 transmissions worth €130.9 million to be supplied in 2028-2030.
