Political analyst: Armenian PM turns Lachin road into last "virtual trench"

    REGION  03 February 2023 - 15:04

Armenian political analyst and expert of the Alternative Projects group Vahe Hovhannisyan has written in his article that Yerevan has very little time to make decisions.

Hovhannisyan noted that "the authorities are turning the phrase 'Armenian sovereignty' into the new brand, which will lead to a new catastrophe like 'Karabakh is Armenia, that’s it'," Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

“This should be taken seriously because it is a narrative that justifies the coming disaster. According to the logic of the current government, Ukraine and Syria are brilliant sovereign countries. We are moving towards this process. Pashinyan has turned Armenia into a 29,800-kilometre battlefield of acute conflict between Russia and the West,” he said.

The expert added that the corridor (Lachin road) narrative is being spread as a parallel brand. No one asks the questions. What is a corridor? What are the solutions? What are the options? Can Armenia benefit from this? What consequences can we face as a result of our current alternative position? Pashinyan turned the corridor into the alleged last "virtual trench" in which he allegedly fights not for life, but for death.

“Today, our people are trapped in ideological sabotage, and even the educated people are worried about the virtual 'corridor' and the 'Union State',” Hovhannisyan said.

The political analyst said that the real deterioration of Armenia-Russia relations, the real danger of a new war and real new victims are subject to the theoretical corridor (which may be an ordinary road) and the ideas of the non-existent "Union State". This is possible only in case of an acute crisis of leadership when the public is not told anything else and is not shown another way. There is no inertial or absent leadership. No one shows these people reality and no one offers possible solutions.

“The authorities say that we cannot ensure the security of either Karabakh or Armenia, and the Russian presence is a threat. The whole society listens to this. There is such a conclusion. Armenia needs a new government with new solutions in the field of security and a new vision of the state. It is possible that the first obligatory step on this path is the official liquidation of the existing opposition formats to create new ones,” he said.

“It is very important for numerous competent figures of today's formats to work effectively in the right formats, for broad public consolidation, giving new content to the state and offering new proposals to society,” the Armenian expert added.
