Italian energy minister: SGC - Azerbaijan's most significant energy project
ECONOMICS 03 February 2023 - 14:50
Italy has all the necessary infrastructure to transport natural gas exported from Azerbaijan to other European countries.
Minister of Environment and Energy Security of Italy Gilberto Pichetto Fratin made the statement while addressing the 9th Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting and 1st Green Energy Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting in Baku, Azertag reports.
He noted that relations between Italy and Azerbaijan are developing in an upward direction. Italy continues building the capacity of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) to increase the volume of Azerbaijani gas exported to Europe. Azerbaijan has large gas reserves and will increase gas exports to Europe from 10 billion cubic metres to 20 billion cubic metres in 2027. Italy is therefore building new infrastructure to be able to receive and distribute up to 30 billion cubic metres of gas in the future.
"The Southern Gas Corridor is the most important energy project of international significance initiated by Azerbaijan. Considering Azerbaijan as a reliable partner, Italy not only supported this project but joined it together and did important work for the implementation of TAP, which is part of the project," the minister said.
