ECONOMICS 03 March 2023 - 11:42
As one of the few countries that fully ensure their energy security at the expense of domestic resources, Azerbaijan, being a reliable partner, has also contributed to the energy security of neighbouring countries and the region.
Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov made the remarks at a meeting with President of the 77th UN General Assembly Csaba Kőrösi, who is visiting Azerbaijan to attend the summit of the Non-Aligned Movement Contact Group on Combating COVID-19, Report informs, citing the Energy Ministry.
Having informed the interlocutor about Azerbaijan's rich oil history and modern energy strategy, the minister also spoke about the work done in the country in connection with the energy transition and strategic goals in the field of renewable energy.
The meeting discussed the steps taken to achieve new goals, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Azerbaijan by 40 per cent by 2050, which were announced at the 26th session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, and the creation of a net zero emission zone on the territories liberated from Armenian occupation.
During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on a number of issues arising from international cooperation.
