Baku urges world not to turn blind eye to Armenia’s violation of its commitments
POLITICS 16 March 2023 - 16:25
Azerbaijan has urged the international community not to turn blind eye to Yerevan’s violation of its commitments under the trilateral statement signed with Baku and Moscow in 2020.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Minister made the statement after two Azerbaijani civilians were killed in a mine explosion in the Aghdam district on March 16, Caliber.Az reports.
"These actions by Armenia continue to be a major obstacle to peace and security in the region. We urge the international community not to turn a blind eye to Armenia's gross violation of its international obligations, including its policy of targeting mines, and to demand that Armenia fulfil its commitments," the Foreign Ministry said.
The ministry stressed that the Aghdam mine incident shows once again that the main goal of Armenia, which has never provided Azerbaijan with reliable mine maps, is to blatantly violate point 6 of the Trilateral Statement of 10 November 10, 2020, by continuing military activities, transportation and placement of mines in Azerbaijani territory to hinder the large-scale post-conflict reconstruction and construction work carried out by Azerbaijan, return of displaced persons and their peaceful residence in their lands.
Thus, 286 people have been hit by landmines since the 2020 Second Karabakh War began, with 48 of them dying.
