The newly appointed Azerbaijani Ambassador to Ukraine Seymur Mardaliyev visited the city of Irpen.

First, Seymur Mardaliyev, Irpen Mayor Oleksandr Markushin and embassy employees laid flowers at the monument of prominent Azerbaijani scientist, ophthalmologist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva in the Ukrainian city of Irpen and honoured her memory, Azertag reports.

The ambassador said that Azerbaijan constantly supports Ukraine, including Irpen City in accordance with President Ilham Aliyev's order, and this support will be continued.

"Irpen is a native city not only for Ukrainians but also for Azerbaijanis. There is a street, a high school and a park here named after Academician Zarifa Aliyeva. Irpen is a bridge of friendship between the peoples of Azerbaijan and Ukraine," the diplomat said.

In his speech, Mayor Oleksandr Markushin called Azerbaijan a friendly and brotherly country for Ukraine.

"We see Azerbaijan's constant attention during the war. On the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, SOCAR's representative office in Ukraine promptly carried out a major repair of the school. I thank President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan for supporting Irpen during the war," the mayor added.

Then Ambassador Mardaliyev visited the territories of Irpen destroyed and damaged during the war.

Since the war in Ukraine unfolded in February 2022, the Azerbaijani government has provided around $20 million in humanitarian aid to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war.

In January 2023, Azerbaijan sent 50 power generators worth $450,000 to Ukraine.

The Ukrainian representative office of Azerbaijan’s State Oil Company (SOCAR Energy Ukraine) provides emergency medical aid and fire engines with free fuel as humanitarian aid.

A major dam in southern Ukraine collapsed on June 6, flooding villages, endangering crops and threatening drinking water supplies as both sides in the war scrambled to evacuate residents and blamed each other for the destruction.

Ukraine accused Russian forces of blowing up the Kakhovka dam and hydroelectric power station, which sits on the Dnieper River in an area Moscow has controlled for more than a year. Russian officials blamed Ukrainian bombardment in the contested area, where the river separates the two sides.
