Pundit slams US think tanks for biased approach to Azerbaijan’s rightful operations in Garabagh
POLITICS 20 September 2023 - 10:34
Brenda Shaffer, a lecturer at the US Naval Postgraduate School and foreign policy expert, has commented on the inconsistent stance of the US media and think tanks towards various geopolitical conflicts in the post-Soviet space.
She made the relevant remarks on her X social media account, formerly known as Twitter, Caliber.Az reports.

"When Ukraine fights for the withdrawal of Russian troops from its territory, the media reaction is: ‘Slava Ukraini!’
In a similar conflict in Georgia: ‘Go Georgia!’
However, when it comes to the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, where Azerbaijan seeks to ensure the withdrawal of 10,000 Armenian troops from its territory, the reaction is less favourable: ‘We need to stop Azerbaijan,’ Schaffer writes.
In another published post, Shaffer questions the inconsistent response of US authorities.
Could you imagine a US Sec. of State @SecBlinken calling up #Ukraine and asking Kiev not to conduct military operations against terrorists operating from Crimea or Donetsk? The US upholds the principle of territorial integrity, except in the case of #Azerbaijan. https://t.co/2qqAkseXQa

On September 19, the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry announced the beginning of anti-terrorist measures of a local nature in the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan. The fighting has continued so far. Azerbaijani Armed Forces do not target civilians and infrastructure objects during the operations.
In the course of the local operations, Azerbaijani Army units neutralized combat positions, military vehicles, artillery and anti-aircraft missile launchers, radio-electronic combat stations and other military means belonging to formations of the Armenian armed forces, according to the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry.
