Armenia launches construction of new road to Kirants
As part of border demarcation with Azerbaijan

    REGION  20 May 2024 - 20:33

Armenia has commenced the construction of a new road to Kirants village (Guney) in the Tavush region as part of the border delimitation and demarcation efforts with Azerbaijan.

According to Caliber.Az, Chief of Staff of Armenia’s Prime Minister's Office Arayik Harutyunyan announced on social media that the reconstruction of the Kirants-Acharkut road has begun and will be upgraded to meet international standards.

The project, which started recently, aims to widen the road and make it accessible for trucks, with an expected completion time of two months. This development follows the installation of border posts in Kirants village.

The 9th meeting of the State Commissions on state border delimitation and border security between Azerbaijan and Armenia was held on May 15, 2024. The meeting, chaired by Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev and Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan, resulted in the signing of a protocol describing the sections of the border between several settlements. They discussed the work accomplished and agreed upon a jointly drafted Protocol-Description of the segments of the border line directly between the residential areas of Baganys Ayrim (AR) -Baganis (RA), Ashagy Askipara (AR)-Voskepar (RA), Kheyrimli (AR) - Kirants (RA), and Gyzylhajily (AR) - Berkaber (RA), with an aim of aligning them in accordance with the legally justified inter-republican border that existed within the framework of the Soviet Union at the time of its dissolution, taking into account the clarification of coordinates based on geodetic measurements on the ground in accordance with the topographic map of the General Staff of the USSR Armed Forces of 1976, which underwent the duty procedure in 1979.
