Russian soldier hospitalised in Armenia after self-inflicted gunshot
A Russian serviceman deployed at the 102nd military base in Armenia has been hospitalised with a severe gunshot wound to the head, in what appears to be an attempted suicide.
The incident occurred on July 10. The soldier was admitted to the Gyumri medical centre in critical condition and underwent emergency surgery. He remains in intensive care in a coma, with his condition described as extremely serious, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
The serviceman has been identified as Alexey G., born in 2002. Preliminary findings suggest that the gunshot wound was self-inflicted. No official statement has been issued by Russian or Armenian military authorities regarding the circumstances of the incident.
The 102nd Russian military base, located in Gyumri, is a key component of Russia’s military presence in the South Caucasus and operates under a bilateral agreement between Moscow and Yerevan. Investigations into the incident are reportedly ongoing.
