Iran warns Bulgaria against providing support to US forces

Tehran has warned Bulgaria against providing support to US forces, saying that any country allowing Washington to use its territory or facilities for attacks against Iran could become a target.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei issued the warning on August 24, specifically criticising the deployment of US refuelling aircraft in Bulgaria as assistance in the war against Iran, according to Iran International.

Baghaei described the deployment as a mistake from the very beginning, stressing that Tehran would not show leniency toward parties involved in attacks against the Islamic Republic.

“Countries have no reason to be concerned about the Islamic Republic unless they have placed their territory and facilities at the disposal of the United States,” he noted.

The spokesperson also said Iran had the right to target any location used to launch attacks against it, warning countries against allowing the United States to use their territory or facilities for such purposes.

Meanwhile, Baghaei dismissed reports that the Strait of Hormuz remained open and that several million barrels of oil were passing through the waterway each day as “media and propaganda warfare.”
