Rosatom eyes new nuclear projects in Armenia as plant extension advances

Rosatom Chief Executive Officer Alexey Likhachev has discussed extending the operating life of Armenia’s nuclear power plant until 2036 with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan.

The sides reviewed progress on the project to extend the plant’s operating life for a second time, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

Likhachev said the first stage of the project had been completed, enabling the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant to obtain authorization for the continued operation of its power unit.

The talks also covered prospects for developing new nuclear generation capacity in Armenia, with Rosatom offering a range of technologies with different power capacities.

According to the corporation, the proposals include large-, medium- and small-capacity nuclear power units.
