Georgia summons Iranian envoy over posts about Queen Ketevan

Georgia’s Foreign Ministry has summoned Iranian Ambassador Seyed Ali Moujani over his social media posts concerning Georgian Queen Ketevan.

Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Khvtisiashvili announced the move.

According to Khvtisiashvili, the Iranian diplomat’s posts go beyond the scope of his diplomatic mandate and are having a negative impact on public sentiment in Georgia.

He stressed that diplomats are expected to observe the norms of diplomatic relations and refrain from offering interpretations of the history and domestic affairs of their host country.

Khvtisiashvili said he hoped the Iranian side would take appropriate measures to ensure that similar incidents do not occur again.

Earlier, Moujani posted an image of Georgian Queen Ketevan projected onto the facade of the Iranian Embassy and said he would soon present the findings of his preliminary research into the historical figure.
