Moscow hopes Iran will remain responsible NPT participant

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow hopes Iran will remain a responsible participant in the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

Peskov described the NPT as a cornerstone of the international nuclear non-proliferation regime and said Russia would not want Tehran to withdraw from the treaty, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

He said Moscow’s position took into account statements by Tehran that it had no plans to develop nuclear weapons.

Peskov also said the involvement of Western countries in direct combat operations against Russia was among the factors considered when deciding whether to impose temporary administration over Western companies in Russia.

He added that the process of introducing temporary administration was reversible.

Peskov further said Russia was not hearing “sensible statements” from Western countries, which, he said, made it necessary to continue the special military operation.
