India’s Russian oil imports reach new record high
23 August 2026 15:57
India’s purchases of Russian oil have reached a record high amid disruptions to supplies from the Persian Gulf, according to data from analytics firm Kpler cited by the Financial Times (FT).
India’s total oil imports rose to around 5 million barrels per day, the highest level since the start of the conflict. The increase came after US and Israeli strikes on Iran and a reduction in oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the analysis, Russian oil supplies to India stood at around 1 million barrels per day in February.
In June and July, New Delhi imported more than 2.6 million barrels of Russian oil per day, accounting for more than half of the country’s total crude oil imports.
