Trump set to unveil $200 billion South Korean investment plan for US

US President Donald Trump is expected to announce a South Korean plan to invest about $200 billion in the United States, including $54 billion for a long-delayed project to export natural gas from Alaska, according to people familiar with the matter.

The announcement is expected to take place in the Oval Office on September 30 and would represent the first tranche of projects to receive support under a 2025 US-South Korea trade agreement, which included a commitment to $350 billion in investment in US projects, Bloomberg reveals.

The Alaska gas project has been championed by a Republican senator facing a competitive re-election contest. Trump has repeatedly expressed support for the project, which has been under consideration for decades.

However, its development has been complicated by the project's high cost and scale, including plans to build a 1,200-kilometre pipeline.

South Korean investment is expected to be important to the project's development, helping finance the construction of the gas pipeline and an export terminal. Once completed, the project would transport Alaskan gas for export, with most of the supplies expected to be shipped to Asian markets, Bloomberg reported.

The US-South Korea trade agreement, signed in 2025, committed Seoul to investing $350 billion in American projects.
