Israeli Military Chief Eyal Zamir cancels US visit

Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir has cancelled a US visit scheduled for the next week and a half amid heightened security tensions in the country, Ynet reports.

The report said, during the visit, Zamir was due to meet with the commander of US Central Command (CENTCOM) and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to discuss military cooperation and threats from Iran.

According to the publication, the military chief informed the US side that, given the heightened readiness of Israeli military units, he considered it inappropriate to leave Israel and oversee developments remotely.

Ynet noted that Zamir decided to cancel the trip before Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced his “pre-election offensive”.
