Kazakh president says Kurultai elections organised flawlessly

24 August 2026 14:25

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has said the elections to the new unicameral parliament, the Kurultai, were organised flawlessly.

He noted that yesterday, for the first time in Kazakhstan’s history, elections to the Kurultai were held, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

“It would not be an exaggeration to say that these elections were successfully and flawlessly organised,” the Kazakh leader stressed.

Tokayev thanked Kazakh citizens for their civic engagement and support for strategy renewal, as well as international observers who monitored the elections.

Earlier, Kazakhstan’s Central Election Commission announced the preliminary results of the elections for deputies of the Kurultai.

As of the morning of August 24, the Adilet party was leading with 71.17% of the vote.

Parties must secure at least 5% of the vote to enter the Kurultai.

According to Central Election Commission Chairman Nurlan Abdirov, 9,351,539 people out of 12,623,289 registered voters took part in the elections, bringing voter turnout to 73.8%.

The Kurultai of the Republic of Kazakhstan is the country’s new unicameral legislature, established on July 1, 2026, after a constitutional referendum on March 15, 2026, that abolished the previous bicameral Parliament (Senate and Mazhilis).

It consists of 145 deputies elected for five-year terms solely through nationwide party-list proportional representation.
