Iran seizes 997 Starlink terminals in four-month crackdown
24 August 2026 10:36
Iranian authorities detained 163 people and seized 997 Starlink satellite internet terminals during a four-month operation through July targeting the illegal trafficking of communications equipment, Hossein Rahimi, head of the Iranian police’s Economic Security Department, said.
He noted that the terminals were smuggled into the country in luggage disguised as household appliances, as well as through couriers operating across border areas, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Local authorities estimate that at least 50,000 satellite internet kits have been illegally brought into Iran since January 2025.
Those found guilty of possessing or distributing the terminals face up to 10 years in prison.
