Indian PM awaits Russian president at BRICS summit UPDATED

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is looking forward to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s attendance at the BRICS summit, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has said.

Putin expressed hope for an early meeting with Modi, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

Earlier, he said the trade turnover between Russia and India has grown this year.

According to him, Russia is increasing fertiliser supplies to India and is “ready to continue doing so.”

The 18th BRICS Summit is scheduled to take place in New Delhi, India, on September 12–13, 2026

On August 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin will receive Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar at the Kremlin during the Indian minister’s working visit to Moscow, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

“He [Russian President Vladimir Putin] intends to receive Indian Foreign Minister Mr Jaishankar, who is in Moscow on a working visit, at the Kremlin in the coming hours,” Peskov told reporters.

Peskov described India as a “special and privileged partner” of Russia and said the talks would have a “more than extensive” agenda, Russian media reports.

Jaishankar has already met Russia’s co-chair of the intergovernmental commission, First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov. He is also due to hold talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
