Armenian leading party wants to grant unlimited rights, arrest ban to EU observers
REGION 19 March 2024 - 09:46
Armenian leading party Civil Contract is working on granting EU observers unlimited rights, broad immunity, and a ban on arrest.
“Yesterday, the Civil Contract faction held an hour and a half meeting at which the tasks and projects included in the agenda of today’s parliamentary session were discussed,” Caliber.Az reports, citing the Armenian publication Hraparak.
“According to the data, the agreement on the status of EU observers was particularly discussed, which was submitted to the National Assembly for ratification. Hayk Konjorian conveyed to his teammates that the opposition takes the agreement seriously and they are expected to make tough speeches, so the responses must be adequate. The MPs were also instructed to begin active meetings with the Armenians of Karabakh, listen to their problems and speak out, showing that they are concerned about them.
By the way, according to this agreement, the EU observers will be granted unlimited rights and broad immunity, and it will be specified that the observers are prohibited from being arrested or detained. Even the country's leaders and deputies do not have such immunity in Armenia," the report says.
