Expert highlights importance of COP29 in accelerating global green transition

Renowned renewable energy expert Nick Medich from the UK emphasized the pivotal role of the upcoming Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in expediting the worldwide transition to green energy solutions.

Medich underscored the significance of the annual COP sessions as the foremost platform for addressing urgent climate change issues and devising effective strategies to combat its impacts, Report informs.

"Without these sessions, no progress would have been made in combating the effects of climate change," Medich asserted, emphasizing the indispensable nature of these gatherings.

Medich emphasized the critical role of COP sessions in evaluating past achievements, setting new objectives, and engaging in vital negotiations to attain them. "The fact that we have held 28 such events to date, one per year, shows how seriously the international community takes them," he noted.

Anticipating the upcoming COP29, Medich acknowledged that while the specific agenda is yet to be unveiled, he envisages it as an opportunity to bolster the provisions of the Paris Agreement. He emphasized the need to accelerate the global green transition while ensuring environmental and socio-economic sustainability.

"I think COP29 will be an opportunity to strengthen the provisions of the Paris Agreement to accelerate the energy [green] transition around the world, while ensuring environmental and socio-economic sustainability," Medich concluded.
