Envoy: Kyrgyz president's state visit to Azerbaijan to focus on economic cooperation
POLITICS 16 April 2024 - 09:25
In anticipation of President Sadyr Japarov's forthcoming state visit to Azerbaijan on April 24 and 25, Ambassador Kairat Osmonaliev, the Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Azerbaijan, sheds light on the agenda, emphasizing the burgeoning economic ties between the two nations.
On radio Sputnik Kyrgyzstan, Ambassador Osmonaliev highlighted the significance of the visit, noting the deep-rooted working relationship between President Japarov and President Ilham Aliyev, which has been nurtured through various international summits and diplomatic exchanges, Caliber.Az reports.
“The head of state participated in the SPECA summit in Baku last November. Presidents meet at various summits - within the framework of the OTS, the CIS. They have a deep working contact. Recently, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov visited Kyrgyzstan; he presented Sadyr Japarov with an invitation from Ilham Aliyev to take part in the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Sadyr Japarov, as we know, is promoting an agenda to protect the interests of mountainous countries. And the number of ‘friend’ countries that support it is growing. Azerbaijan is one of them,” Osmonaliev said.
According to the ambassador, during the upcoming state visit of Japarov on April 24 and 25 to Azerbaijan, more than ten treaties and agreements will be signed. They will also discuss the implementation of agreements already reached, primarily the construction of a five-star hotel on the shores of Issyk-Kul, which they intend to build faster than the planned three years.
“We are moving forward in terms of economic diplomacy, working on logistics issues. Today, the revival of the Middle Corridor, which is associated with the Chinese ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative, is being discussed. It runs along the path of the Great Silk Road. Our country also intends to join it; our geographical location contributes to this. Preparatory work is already underway for the construction of the century - a railway from China. Alternatives are always needed. An option is being considered through Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, then through the Caspian Sea by ferry to Baku and further through the Caucasus to Europe. It is also possible to get to Russia without going to Kazakhstan,” concluded Osmonaliev.
