Azerbaijani ambassador: Armenia uses fake information as evidence in public court hearings

    POLITICS  18 April 2024 - 16:19

Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the Netherlands Rahman Mustafayev has said that Armenia repeatedly used unconfirmed data in the International Court of Justice.

Mustafayev made these remarks during the hearings in the second round of objections at the International Court of Justice in The Hague in the case of application of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination in a claim filed by Armenia, according to Report.

“Armenia repeatedly used unconfirmed data and misinterpretations as evidence during the preliminary objection hearings in the Armenian case challenging the application of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination,” he noted.

“Azerbaijan was outraged by Armenia’s repeated use of incorrect translations and interpretations of evidence in an attempt to demonstrate that relevant parts of its statement may fall within the scope of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination,” Mustafayev said, commenting on the false information of the Armenian representatives about the Azerbaijani servicemen’s military labels with racist words.

Mustafayev emphasised that there is no real evidence that racist words were used and that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, allegedly insulted the Armenian people, which he never did.

“I can assure the court that the Azerbaijani armed forces have never used racist labels. This fake information was spread by the Armenian social networks. This evidence, which the lawyer of the Armenian side drew attention to at the hearings, is another fake. This is unacceptable for this court,” he said.

Moreover, Mustafayev noted that the Armenian side, in its arguments during the hearing on April 16, presented unreliable information, which grossly distorted the evidence base, and made statements that had virtually nothing to do with Azerbaijan’s specific preliminary objections.
